RICHARD FREEMAN: Critiques "giant crocodile"

The crocodile in the picture is not exceptionaly large. We have some frames of refernce to measure it by.The front portion of the animal is lying on a matress. The average length of a dounble matress is 6 feet three inches. Part of the head and the whole of the tail and hind legs protude from the matress. The man in the background is standing close to the crocodile's tail and his leg appears to ne touching it. The end of the tail dissapears behind him. If he is of average hight, around six feet it would seem the the crocodile is about two and a half times as lomg as he is tall. Judging by this the crocodile is in the region of fifteen feet long and would weigh about 100lb, formidable but no record holder. The largest measured specemin was 28 feet four inches long.
